THE F WORD: FAMINE IS THE REAL OBSCENITY (INTERNATIONAL VERSION)

ONE’s new film The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity isn’t a typical emotional emergency appeal. It’s about focusing the media spotlight on the tragedy unfolding. It’s about building political support in the US and around the world for interventions that will stop the suffering today and break the cycle of famine in the future. Most of all, it’s about taking action — because famine is man-made.

ESPN MAGAZINE CELEBRATES THE ATHLETIC PHYSIQUE {SANS UNIFORMS}

Expanding on Sports Illustrated‘s ridiculously successful annual swimsuit issue, ESPN: The Magazine is releasing its third-annual “Body Issue”—which celebrates the bare bodies of more than 20 top athletes—on October 7.

Among the sculpted figures in the altogether (save for strategically covered private parts) are the L.A. Clippers’  Blake Griffin, The Mets’ Jose Reyes and Rams running back Steven Jackson, speed skater Apolo Ohno, NHL player Ryan Kesler, UFC champion Jon Jones, race-car driver Helio Castroneves; snowboarder Louie Vito, boxer Sergio Martinez, marathoner Ryan Hall and paralympian Jeremy Campbell. Female models include soccer star Hope Solo, the WNBA’s Sylvia Fowles, snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler and roller-derby queen Suzy Hotrod.

“This is an issue in the short time we’ve been doing it that’s become pretty anticipated,” says ESPN editor Chad Millman. “In terms of the athletes we’ve attracted, we feel like the group is really strong.”

BLOGGING PERIPHERAL VISION

After blogging for few years, I have developed a survival mechanism I like to call "blogging peripheral vision." What this means is that I can set my attention on the work at hand and still be able to see what's going on around me. The huddled confabs, the whispered asides, the sideways glances, the roll of the eyes, the smirks of disdain, the sulking pouts, the exhalations of disgust, the looks of admiration (few and far between), and the endless variations of body language that reveal impatience, rejection, jealousy, and simple disbelief that I'm in charge and you're not. I see it all. And I don't comment. I just make note of it. Occasionally I will respond in a roundabout fashion that might make you think I'm clairvoyant. I am not. I am simply watching. Just thought you might like to know.

Carry on.

MONDAY MUSICAL MOTIVATION: SOMEONE LIKE YOU

Adele has recently premiered the music video for her latest smash hit single "Someone Like You". The emotional ballad, co-written and co-produced by Dan Wilson and Adele, is the official second single from the British vocal powerhouse’s "21" album. "Someone Like You" has dominated charts worldwide but it has made a particular impact on the US' Hot 100 as it became the first strict ballad to claim the top spot in more than three years! Wow! Go Adele! As for the music video, it was directed by Jake Nava, and in short, it is a black and white production, that follows a Adele wandering the early morning streets of Paris and pining for her long-lost love. Simple but cute at the same time.
