SO I AM IN THE BARBER SHOP YESTERDAY & THE AD CAME ON FOR NELLY'S NEW WORK-OUT DVD. NOW I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL THE MEN IN SHOP STARTED HATING ON THE AD SAYING THINGS LIKE WTF? & WHO IS THIS REALLY FOR ? THEY ALL CHIMED IN SAYING, 'WHAT MAN IS GOING TO BUY A DVD WITH NELLY BAREBACK ON THE COVER?' SO THAT GOT ME TO THINKING, THIS VIDEO IS OBVIOUSLY FOR MEN & IF THE 'STRAIGHT' MEN IN THE BARBER SHOP HAD A PROBLEM SUPPORTING HIM, WHO IS HE MARKETING HIMSELF TO? OF COURSE THEY WERE QUICK TO POINT OUT THAT ONLY SOFT MEN WOULD SUPPORT HIM. DO YOU AGREE? DO YOU THINK THE MEN IN THE BARBER SHOP HAVE A POINT? WHY OR WHY NOT?
I would say yes and no. On one hand, most straight dudes(or at least the ones at the shop you went to) would probably feel uncomfortable buying a video with a bare-chested Nelly on the cover, and would probably have to clutch their fitted caps while saying 50 No homos lest their friends think they're gay.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, guys who are really into bodybuilding/fitness (i.e the ones who subscribe to Flex, Men's Fitness and other muscle mags) probably wouldn't give two shits if he's shirtless, because their main focus is getting in shape.
And of course you have a combination of both--gay dudes who crush on Nelly but are also into weightlifting and working out--which would be me, lol.
Mr. Neil pretty much said what I had planned to add here. Publicly, the guys in the barbershop had to to front and make their comments. Privately, I bet more than just a few would watch the dvd in order to score a few pointers and to satisfy their secret desires.
ReplyDeleteGotta luv the brothas in the Barber Shop. I believe most of them would purchase the book and would relish the idea of working out their body to look like Nelly's, but like most STR8 men they worry about the gay stigma.
