Sho nuff! I'm a helpless romantic so I totally believe in love. I like to think that everybody deserves to be loved by someone and I feel such pity for the young folk my age who have yet to know what it's like to love and be loved back.
Before my boyfriend and I started dating, I thought love was something tangible. But I'm not so ignorant now. Love is transcendent. And if you're lucky, it can lift you up and give the the ability to do things you once thought were impossible.
People are gay or straight, male or female, child or adult. Love is love. As Gibran says in The Prophet, "Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses naught nor would it be possessed; For love is sufficient unto love."
He also says one of my absolute favorite quotes, "love has no other desire but to fulfill itself." Not to fulfill us, but to fulfill itself. We are just avenues or conduites through which it may satisfy itself!
Butt of course! The question seems a moot one because it already EXISTS. You can see it as an entity in the world.
The better question would be: are you capable of BEING IN LOVE? In other words: Could you LOVE and BE LOVED in return? Many people can't. It has far less to do w/ their sexuality & more w/ what went into the paint that created them. That thing which essentially makes them who & what they are; their fundamental being... & IF that part is emotionally capable of feeling love, of being in love, of being vulnerable, unselfish & REAL, then yes, love is indeed possible in those lucky (Blessed) people.
The answer lies with the specific meaning of the question. Do gay men have the capacity to love? Absolutely! Is it possible for two men to experience love? Definitely! Love is love; regardless of the gender of the individuals involved and their orientation. Love is blind: it can be gay, bisexual or heterosexual.
Well, I believe in Love. It does distinguish Itself in terms of divine love, human love, gay and straight, male and female. But to me love is love. It's essential quality is the same from one group to another: sacrifice, selflessness, empathy.
As much as I'd like to be deep here (I'm at work, so I can't type too long), I'll just say that love is real, and it has no labels. Love is it's own thing, a very special thing. And I agree that some of our gay peers feel that being a homosexual negates us from finding/establishing and keeping love.
