Extra-ordinary teaching. Somethings I don't agree with but this us what need more of, people who can re-imagine and re-invent Christianity so it does not hold us hostage but sets us free, as is our destiny!
No arguments here, especially the part about the church not wanting people to grow up (don't even get me started on how I feel religion stifles people's emotions--"spirits" of worry and fear and other assorted BS).
I am a member of a faith community (Greek Orthodox); however, God also gave me a mind of my own. If the God that I believe in is truly all-loving, all-forgiving and all-knowing, then I believe Him/Her incapable of condemning His/Her children to hell, if indeed it does exist. At the same time, I do believe there is a special place reserved for the perpetual haters of humanity: Hitler, Idi Amin, the perpetuators of genocide, etc. Simplistic, perhaps, but then I have a simple mind.
Playing the devil's advocate for a moment, if you believe in God, you have to accept the premise of a devil as well, perhaps not a hoofed and horned creature but a Spirit which is the antithesis of Good. Life is, after all a duality, where there is Good there must be Evil.
If there is a heaven there must be a hell. And again not the literal streets paved with gold or fire and brimstone pit, but a condition or state of being. I have been to heaven once or twice and hell, with let's say I am familiar with that, too (DMV, the post office or any government office, lol)
