FOR YEARS, WE'VE BEEN TAUGHT MANY THINGS ABOUT SEX & NO MATTER WHAT YOU BELIEVE, WE ALL KNOW IT IS A NATURAL ACT BETWEEN TO CONSENTING ADULTS. ON THIS SUBJECT WE HAVE A DIVIDE WITH VERY LITTLE IN BETWEEN, SO TELL ME IS SEX:
TOO CONFINED & COMMITTED
¿OR?
TOO OPEN & UNCOMMITTED
WHEN SEX IS PIGEONHOLED INTO THESE TWO CATEGORIES, DO YOU THINK IT HURTS US?
i think there's a lot of space between those two polar opposites. it's just that people are taught from the time they're children that you can either do one or the other. it's pretty much like that for most things we believe or value. this or that. either or. black or white. here or there. it stunts us and our abilities to process information when we insist on always understanding there to be only two options for every issue, in every situation. the reality is, there are as many solutions and possible outcomes as we will allow for. this isn't to say that every one will fit every person or that every option is necessarily a perfect or good choice. but we do have a multiplicity of available choices if we are willing to take responsibility for dreaming them, envisioning them, claiming them and building them to our own specifications. for me? well, this means more than one partner in open relationships, with struggle and imperfection, but also with love and commitment in the long term. not for everyone. but it's the option i chose.
ReplyDeletePhysical intimacy between same gender loving people is always going to be outside the norm of society. The reason is we're not a category that is traditionally covered in conversation. As a result of this, many of us create our own standards of sexual behavior that the mainstream population doesn't understand or relate to. I'm unaware of any gay rule that states we have to experience intimacy in any certain way or format. For many, I'd be considered and easy slut; however, those who truly know me think of me as too selective and too easy!
