THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH & NOTHING BUT...

So a few days ago, I was taking my boss from Switzerland to get him a local cell so he can be accessible when not in the office. Now on our drive, he asked how I felt about the company and stuff like that. I told him I was fine and I have the accounting down to a science. He said he was glad to hear that and made mention of performance reviews and it was @ this time that he told me that I would do my manager’s and vice versa. Now neither of these men knows that I saw a letter on my manager’s computer saying to our boss that he feels that my probation needs to be extended because he doesn’t feel I am quite ready for reasons that he cannot substantiate. Now my probation was up on the 31st of December 2010 and though I wasn’t given a letter confirming me as an employee, we did sign a contract confirming me and approving my new salary for the year. Now I know it is against the law to try and go back on that agreement and I don’t think they would try, but nonetheless my question to you is this: should I give my honest opinion on his management skills? My manager takes @ least 3 hour lunches daily, spend the rest of the time on the phone, he never knows where anything is or how to get certain things done. And I can say I learn nothing from working with him, so in my assessment of him do I speak the truth or do I make him look good to keep my job?

  1. 1) How sharp is the Big Boss (Swiss guy)?

    2) Do you think he's in town to observe your boss and confirm suspicions that he might have about your boss' work habits?

    3) Isn't your boss the one with the mistress?

    4) What is your gut instinct about the Big Boss? Can you trust him?

    5) Are other employees evaluating your boss too? Or is it just you?

    6) If you tell him anything, I'd meet him for lunch or dinner privately rather than putting things in writing. I'd structure your analysis of your boss based on the way his work affects the company. Start out with the good stuff that he does and then go into the "On the other hand......" type issues.

Your evaluation can't look like a personal vendetta, it can't be bitchy and spiteful. It has to be professional and it all has to relate to how his performance positively or negatively affects the employees and the company. Do you and the other employees get the tools and support you need to work effectively and efficiently? That kind of stuff.

He could be the biggest prick in the world, cheating on his wife, etc. But if the office is prospering and growing under his leadership, being a prick won't matter to the Big Boss.

  2. CALI-P:
    1)MY BOSS IS PRETTY SHARP
2)I DO THINK HE IS HERE TO OBSERVE HOW WE WORK TOGETHER
3)MY MANAGER IS THE ONE WITH THE MISTRESS (GOOD MEMORY)
4)I FEEL THAT I CAN TRUST MY BOSS, I HAD 3 FRIENDS OF MINE INTERVIEWED WITH HIM FOR POSITIONS @ OTHER COMPANIES & THEY CALL CAME BACK TELLING ME THAT MY BOSS IS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH MY WORK ETHIC & HE CAN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT ME TO THEM.
5)SADLY IT IS JUST THE TWO OF US WORKING FOR THE COMPANY
6)YOU DO HAVE A POINT THERE

I WOULDN'T GO PERSONAL THOUGH HE WOULD MAKE IT PERSONAL. OUR BOSS IS ABOUT TEAM EFFORT & GETTING THE WORK DONE, HE ISN'T ABOUT POINTING FINGERS CAUSE AS FAR AS HE IS CONCERNED WE ARE BOTH IN THIS TOGETHER.
