¿CAN YOU BE GAY WITHOUT BEING ‘GAY’?

Ever had the feeling that life would be much better if you weren't gay? That if you'd just been raised differently or born in other circumstances, your present life would be different, in more ways than one? In my experience, most gay men feel like they have to ascribe to some sort of pre-determined lifestyle. From the way we go about sex, to our musical and artistic tastes, physical appearance and ideas of beauty, even where we should live, work or eat, being ‘gay’ just seems to traverse all aspects of our lives; but what about those gay men that don’t get caught in all of that? You know the ones that women go ape shit when they find out he is gay, yeah him? What about him? ¿CAN YOU BE GAY WITHOUT BEING ‘GAY’?

  1. Being gay is part of our individual psyche, ourselves, our core being. Regardless of how much some of us try, we're unable to escape it, completely. Some may run and try to hide; but, they're never able to shake it off.

Some of us fit the stereotype of what a gay man is. Some of us don't. Some of us can pass as hetero and others can't, not even in their dreams. Some of us are gay, 24/7. Some of us are gay only when we're in bed with another man.

Is there a gay standard? I don't think so. We're all individuals who happen to be gay. How we chose to respond to being gay is as diverse as our numbers. To each, there own.

    Peace, my blogger brother!

  2. Around the time that I came out, my dad asked me if his absence in my younger years could have been part of what caused me being gay. I said no. At the time, I was 17. My younger brother was 13 and had been raised by my father his entire life. But my little brother is much more feminine than I am. When I pointed this out to him, I think I finally won the whole "nature vs. nurture" argument.

But it's a pretty loaded question to answer. I guess it depends on what you consider "being gay" is, right? In my humble opinion, a person is only what they believe they are. If you consider yourself gay, then so be it.

...And besides... Who's bidniss is it anyway?

  5. Yeah... I'm with Roger. Some fit the stereotype, some don't. Or some of the time, etc etc etc.
Like me, for instance. Sometimes you can spot me a mile away. But when I have my BDU and gears on.... you wouldn't think it. lol. Well okay... maybe if I stand a certain way, you can still tell. LOL!!!

Whatever rocks your boat, I guess.

  7. @GayteKeeper-- we're still on the fence about it (and so is he). I see so much of myself in him at that age, it's almost scary. But I do try my best to be a good example for him. God knows I needed one.

  9. I can imagine that life might have been a lot easier in many ways had I been born heterosexual. That said, if I had the Choice to do it all over again, I would Choose to be gay.
