THE BIBLE: ¿WHERE DO GAYS GO FROM HERE?

Who decides what’s right or wrong?

We all know the Bible appraises self-worth according to strict sets of laws and hierarchies: Go to Hell if you covet the neighbor’s house, kill the neighbor, or take off with the neighbor’s wife.

It runs moral meanings smooth over broken fine lines that fall somewhere between fact and fiction and good and evil. God still hates figs and shrimp, right?

It also often hides contradiction and its very own accommodating history under stories that once upon a time were not its own: Remember, Christmas and Easter grew from Pagan roots.

Unfortunately for us, the Bible and people's interpretations of it can brew misguided thoughts about homosexuality. But it does deserve our attention. Its words read just like modern humans behave: We wake hand-in-hand with dissension; we evolve, yet still keep patterns of judgment close. And we all at some point in time ask,

Where did we come from? What’s the point?”

So where do the gays go from here?

Will God ever stop hating gays?

  1. Christians believe that Jesus came to earth to establish a new order, separate and distinct from Jewish law and custom. Nowhere in the Bible do we find Jesus speak of homosexuality. Not a single word. He addressed every other major sin except same sex loving. More often than not, He (Jesus) spoke more on loving, tolerance and charity.

Where do we go from here? Trust our hearts and minds as opposed to the self-serving interpretations of false prophets. Their hate and hypocrisy doesn't need to be our own. Their brand of Christianity ignores the greatest commandment of all: Love one another.

Personally, I consider myself a spiritual man and not a religious man. I believe in the goodness of all religions and reject the messages of exclusion and hate espoused by all those who choose to overlook the essential truths.

  2. I truly believe that God is more compassionate than He is portrayed in the Old Testament. If He loves me like the Bible says He does, then He will give me Grace. Especially since He knows my heart and knows that I am truly, utterly gay. I'm not attracted to women at all. And my sexual orientation feels as natural as a heart beat. It's not that I rejoice in this "sin", I just have to live with it.

The Bible says that even the holiest of us, in all of our righteousness, are as "filthy rags" in the eyes of God (Isiah 64:1-10). So I don't really sweat when people try to "bible bash" and debate. But you know what? These two dichotomies were the bane of my spiritual life. Now that I'm older and more mature (naturally and spiritually), I'm at peace with them.

God loves me, but hates me sin. There's nothing I can do about it. Point-blank.

  6. Yes and No. I do believe that Sin is bad because otherwise, we wouldn't need Jesus to atone for us. But since we're born into sin, it is in our nature to act against God's will. Is it a flaw in the grand design? Possibly. Ultimately, it comes down to the relationship between yourself and Him. God and I are at an... understanding. I truly believe that I was born gay. Since He made me in His image, He must know how sincerely and naturally attracted I am to men.

  7. Many people will argue that we are in the new law. We are no longer under the law of Moses. So in other words, If we aren't supposed to be gay neither are we to eat shell fish, but we do. So actually you must work on your own soul salvation and have a relationship with HIM for yourself.

  8. Somewhere in the old testament it says 'thou shalt not spill thy seed upon the earth'- so I guess it's a sin to jerk off and if so, we will all roast in Hell.

The Jewish Talmud states that it's okay to be a homosexual if you dont have sex.. like that would ever happen.

    AMEN

I once asked a Unity minister if God hears the prayers of Gay people and she said 'YES He does'. She is a Lesbian and I would imagine she wouldnt be in this business if God was deaf to the prayers of Gay men and women.

I once asked a Fundamentalist friend of mine if Jesus loved me and she said 'YES, because you do His work on Earth every day.' Okay, so why does she go bible thumping every Sunday and damn anyone who does not take the Bible LITERALLY like she does? So, since I am her good friend, do I get some special dispensation ?

When all is said and done, I feel that I am a pious man, I do 'good works', I love my neighbor, and I live a decent life. I can say without hesitation that all of my prayers (the really important ones) have been answered and that my cup runneth over. My conscience is clean and I look forward to meeting God in Heaven when my time comes.
