AGE AIN'T NOTHING BUT A NUMBER


Age Ain't Nothing but a Number is the debut album by American recording artist Aaliyah, released under Jive and Blackground Records on June 13, 1994, in the United States. After being signed by her uncle Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah was introduced to recording artist and producer R. Kelly. He became her mentor, as well as the lead songwriter and producer of the album. The duo recorded the album at the Chicago Recording Company in ChicagoIllinois. The album featured two hit singles, including the top ten-charting "Back & Forth" and "At Your Best (You Are Love)"; both singles were certified Gold by theRecording Industry Association of America (RIAA). One more single was released in the United States: "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number". After the release of "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number" 2 more singles were released Internationally. "Down With The Clique" and "The Thing I Like".
Age Ain't Nothing But a Number received generally favorable reviews from critics. Many noted Aaliyah's vocal ability and praised the lyrical content. Aaliyah was credited for redefining R&B by blending her voice with Kelly's new jack swing. The album peaked at number 18 on the Billboard 200 and sold over three million copies in the United States, where it was certified double platinum by the RIAA to date.[1] The album was certified Gold in Canada by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) and Silver in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) to date.


"Back & Forth" is a song written by R. Kelly for American singer Aaliyah's debut studio album Age Ain't Nothing but a Number (1994). Its lyrics chronicle a teenage girl's excitement to celebrate the weekend by going to a party and having fun with her friends. The music video for the song was shot in her hometown of Detroit and features Aaliyah and Kelly performing in a gym with her real-life friends from high school. Kelly performs the rap in the song.
The song was released as the album's lead single in early 1994 (see 1994 in music), and certified gold by the RIAA on June 9, 1994[1]. It spent three weeks at number-one on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, and peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first single to hit the top-ten. The single was ranked second on the year-end chart of Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs.[2] The single also went top-ten in Canada.



"At Your Best (You Are Love)" is a song by The Isley Brothers, originally a radio hit in 1976. It was originally dedicated to their mother. Eighteen years later, the song was revived by American singer Aaliyah for her debut studio album Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. Released as the album's second single, it peaked at number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the R&B singles chart, also reaching number 27 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was certified gold single by RIAA on October 25, 1994.[1] In 2010 Canadian rapper Drake sampled Aaliyah's version of the song in his song "Unforgettable".
