¿ARE YOU A SINNER THAT’S A HOMOSEXUAL OR A HOMOSEXUAL THAT SINS?

I was reading THEOLOGY NOW BLOG the other day and while reading this entry, the idea to write today’s entry hit me. Like he said, Many Christians are in the "hate the sin, love the sinner" camp when it comes to homosexuality. They follow a bible that says, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:13). Though the bible also lists several other 'sins' punishable by death, they seem fixated on that one. Now the interesting thing for me is MANY of us gay men AND women share their feelings…you LOVE being gay, but HATE that you are?

Many of us try to find some middle ground by lending their time, talents, and financial support to churches that place us in such a moral position. Without us, many churches would be but a mere shadow of themselves. How is it that we have allowed them to do this to us? How did we become good enough to do God’s work, but NOT good enough to go to heaven? I say we allowed them to make us feel this way because we feel like they’ve given us a choice when they REALLY haven’t.

We’ve been HATED for SO long that THE VERY LIVES we live only gives us misery AND despair. Those of us who are wondering in the dark can’t help but see ourselves as two things: A SINNER & A HOMOSEXUAL. We have yet come to understand that the place we should seek comfort is in ourselves first AND foremost. So for homosexual men AND women who have yet to REALLY know who they are, can you tell me where you stand? ARE YOU A SINNER THAT’S HOMOSEXUAL or A HOMOSEXUAL THAT SINS? I don’t see a middle ground for you as long as you ONLY give yourselves the options THEY handed down to you…

  1. Neither. Thank Heavens I have grown out of the God-will-punish-you-because-you-are-gay mindset. I strictly believe we humans have to be honest with ourselves, do good to ourselves and others.

I do not believe in a Dantesque hell as subscribed by the Christian Church. I do believe that people are ultimately responsible for their own actions, good or bad.

Christ himself never said a word about homosexuality and the Bible is explicit when it tells the story of Jonathan and David. If that ain't Gay, what is?

    Cheers

  2. This is one area I try to steer from thinking too much about. First of all I am a Catholic and I still go to Church, I also do alot of charity with kids and with various other activities....I don't need the Church to tell me that I am a sinner when I am doing things that are good....I think of myself as gay...but I don't describe myself as that only...I think of myself as a man; friend; brother etc that happens to be gay....I hope that makes sense.

  4. I have a feeling that most of us would have been stoned to death from eating shellfish (shrimp, clams, oysters, etc.) long before we reached the age where we became sinners because of our sexuality. And this is one of the problems that I have with all the bible-tuhmping reactionaries who go on and on and on about us sinners.

As for me, I say fuck em!! I love who I am and I refuse to be defined or characterized by any moral dictates that have no relevance in the 21st Century. Am I a sinner? You bet I am if that means I've done bad, reprehensible, awful things to others in my life. Will I be punished for my sins at some day of reckoning? Who knows? Surely not me. But if that day should come I'm ready to face up to whatever that may entail. I'm just hopeful that my judgement trial is overseen by a New Testament Judge - the loving, compassionate and forgiving God whom I do believe in. We are only human, after all.

  5. I am a sinner full of sin. That is the type of person that God can use. Lord remember me (patting my chest) a sinner.

  7. why have american homosexuals remained so stupid about dealing with aids. if they utilized one tenth of the effort they are using to legalize marriage, they would have wiped it out. instead there appears to be an overall encouragement to remain in denial. on kpft(the houston local public radio station) in all the hours of listening to gay sponsored programs i have heard not a scintilla of conversation about dealing with aids.

i also hear nothing about the issue of sexual addiction.

  9. *kisses the gayte keeper on the cheek* i've missed you :0)

I believe our heaven and hell is right here on earth. Needless to say i do BELIEVE in a higher power, and something bigger then i that is responsible for all the wondrous things that we see... "Homosexual, gay, lesbian, femme are labels sapiens spew to lump or generalize... so while if having to identify with a group i am a lesbian. It doesn't define me so i am a woman who loves a woman. Do i believe its a sin? <----i dont because it would contradict "said God of love" How can loving be a sin when its the focal point of christianity as we've been taught? Am i guilty of sinning in general yes - pro

  10. I would have to go with neither. I like to disengage the thought that the bad things I do are sins. I mean, the church has come to use the word sin as their personal weapon to instill fear in everyone. But the truth is, why focus on your sins? Are they not just mere mistakes we either choose to act out, or unintentionally get involved in? And really, if you think about it, sin itself is all relevant. In any situation someone's virtue could be another's sin.

I am a homosexual. That is how I was created, whether by god, or by evolution, destiny just had dick in mind for me. How can being apart of my own natural current be anything but natural? And the same goes for sinning. I am a living creature with the ability to think and act as I wish. Being so, it is only suited to expect that I will do things that will be unfavorable to some.
