¿WHY DO WE JUDGE EACH OTHER?

I’ve learned to judge folks by what they are from inside; and NOT by what they appear from out. Isn’t it something how NATURAL our inclination to judge people happens without our even thinking about it? And we gay men take one look and summarize each other by tagging one another. When we judge, we are looking for pertinent information, trying to determine whether the person approaching is a threat, an ally, or someone we don’t need to worry about. SO WHY DO WE JUDGE EACH OTHER WHEN IT LEADS TO AN OVERLY SIMPLISTIC READING OF THE PEOPLE WE MEET?

  1. Excellent question. I think I ask that of myself often, because I have a tendancy to judge people (working on it). I am learning to get to know people and most of them time they surprise you.

  2. I'm good at refraining from judging people until I have learned a great deal about them. Then again I have judged a few folkd prior to learning more about them, oh well.

  3. I think the reason why we judge is to understand our place in the world. It's the human need to size themselves up with each other. When we judge we measure how much this person compares to us and if they are a threat.

  4. It's been studied and proven that the human brain is nothing more than a complex difference engine that has evolved and adapted over millions of years of evolution to add an endless amount of comparisons to an infinite list of situations that should be avoided in order to survive.

Like elevators full of fat people.

Or gays who're devastatingly handsome but also tweaking like a cat with a stripped power cord shoved up its arse.

The real question isn't whether or not its natural to judge based on appearances or even if this is a factual basis on which to gather an accurate picture of a person, which in both cases it IS, but if it makes us stupid or noble to ignore this very human instinct and forgoe the casual judgments in favor of putting ourselves in a potentially unpleasant situation in order to learn we were right all along.
    ;p

  5. HUMBLY BEAUTIFUL - I THINK JUDGING EACH OTHER IS NATURAL...NOW WHEN WE DO IT IN A SPITEFUL MANNER...THAT'S ANOTHER STORY.

CHET - I LIKE THAT APPROACH...SEEK TO UNDERSTAND, THEN BE UNDERSTOOD...

SEEKDIANSA - YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THAT!

COGENT ASCENDING - I LOVE THE WAY YOU THINK...

  6. People judge each other because most haven't taken into account where the other has been in life. Some folks automatically have assumptions about individuals before assessing their true character. For some, it isn't about seeking anything but strategizing how to manipulate, embarrass, ridicule, or just find the weaknesses in others.
