¿READY TO MALE? (PART IV) HOMOPHOBIA…

Each living being is dependent upon other living things for its survival. When we look at the world, we see that this is not a place where different beings survive independently of one another. Earth is home to a web of living things that are connected to each other through a spinning kaleidoscope of relationships. We need each other to survive and thrive; yet we DESTROY each other with no reservation. So I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that we GAY men have this HATE program going on with each other. We carry this DESTRUCTIVE baggage from boyhood all the way into manhood. When are we going to learn that it is HARD to BUILD a community when we are TOO busy separating ourselves? Demean the men among us who are the salt of this earth because we SUPERFICIALLY allow the world to force us to DEFINE what a GAY man is…And so we all have this sort of FUCKED up idea of what masculinity really is. But isn’t it our DIVERSITY that makes us the most powerful and feared people on this planet? We are constantly bombarded with images of the TYPICAL HOMOSEXUAL…The lavish uncaring frivolous queen with 6” pumps, bag, wig AND makeup to match has the community running scared…I wonder who are the sissies now? YES there is a difference between masculine AND feminine traits; however aren’t they all just learnt behavior? Because of this muddled notion, we have a line drawn in the sand of the community that seemingly says, IT US VS. THEM! How ridiculous is that? NO matter how hard we try to separate ourselves, the world @ large STILL sees all of us as a COMPLETE waste of men who need to get their acts together. I for one agree with this notion half of the way because this has spilled over into our bedrooms furthering the divide…LET ME NOT GET STARTED ON THE ASININE SEX-ROLE SUPREMACY/POSITIONING FAD…ON SECOND THOUGHT I THINK I SHOULD…When I think about my sexual past, there is a rainbow tribe of diverse lovers smiling back. Some would be deemed feminine, others masculine AND some in between. I can say that I’ve had some surprising times with persons from each spectrum of the GAY community. I know that we all  have PREFERENCES when it comes to choosing a male for relationships OR sex, but do we have to act as if we are accused of molestation when propositioned OR questioned about someone that isn’t our cup of tea? Why do we treat this person as if he has the plague? OBVIOUSLY there is something DEEPER going on here. Discrimination, particularly INTERNALIZED HOMOPHOBIA is a loaded word and NO matter what side of the line you are on, the SCARS last for a long time. This has been THRIVING in OUR community DESTROYING us one male @ a time and I feel that it is time that we STOP this performance…If we are to change the game, we have to change how we play it…We NEED to cleanse out the old programming AND become that centered GAY man GOD intended us to be. I know that it’ll take SACRIFICE beyond what most are willing to put forth, but what do we have to lose? Things can’t possible get any worse than they are now…

  1. You talk of gays not being able to build a community when they separate themselves.

I stand to be corrected, but from my observations, many in the gay 'community' behave in a way that defeat themselves. I cannot count the number of times I have come across people discussing what they call the 'flaming queens'. And not very nice things are said. And I wonder, what the hell?

You want to fight for equality and acceptance within the larger society and yet within your own walls you are divided! What's up with the 'straight-looking' vs 'feminine' labels? Why, as a gay man, have an attitude towards another gay man based on how he looks or carries himself, when the other half of society does not make that distinction? Once a homophobic person knows that you're gay, irrespective of the fact that you 'look straight' or not, they treat you the same as they would an effeminate man? So why sow that unnecessary division amongst yourselves in the first place?

'United we stand, divided we fall'. Doesn't the say go? If you are unable to practice charity, kindness and sympathy amongst yourselves, how are you going to be able to win your battles? You rise and fall together.

  3. OKAY, I DON'T THINK WHAT I SAID PREVIOUSLY REALLY ARTICULATED WHAT I WANTED TO SAY.

WHAT I WANTED TO SAY WAS, CAN PEOPLE STOP WITH THIS SELF-DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOUR ALREADY? I AM SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED. WHEN ARE GAY MEN GONNA GET IT TOGETHER?

YOU GO ALL OVER THE WEB AND MOST OF WHAT YOU READ IS ABOUT HOW SOMEONE LOOKS, WHETHER THEY HAVE A SIX-PACK OR NOT AND HOW WELL-HUNG THEY ARE. SUPERFICIAL STAFF. I STOPPED VISITING A NUMBER OF WEBSITES AND BLOGS BECAUSE OF THIS. THIS IS SOOO TIRED, I SWEAR.

AND THE MOST RIDICULOUS OF THEM; TREATING EFFEMINATE GUYS WITH CONTEMPT. IS IT BECAUSE THEY ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT? DO THEY EXPOSE YOU? DO THEY OFFEND YOUR 'MANHOOD'?

REALLY. ARE WE EVER GONNA GET A GRIP? AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY THEY'RE IN A MESS.

  5. SHALLOTTE - I HAD THIS TOPIC FLOATING AROUND IN HEAD FOR SUCH A LONG TIME. I DIDN'T WANT TO WRITE IT BECAUSE I FELT THAT WE ARE A LOST CAUSE, BUT I CAME TO REALIZE THAT IF I REACH ONE PERSON THEN MY PURPOSE FOR WRITING THESE ENTRIES WERE MET...I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY FEEL THAT DEEP WITHIN MYSELF THAT WE'LL GET IT & TAKE OUR PLACE IN THIS WORLD WITHOUT LABELS & HATRED...

  7. MANY A TIME I FEEL THE 'WE' ARE A LOST CAUSE. BUT IF YOU HAVE HOPE, WELL BABES, THEN WE'LL KEEP HOPING.

AND YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT MEETING YOUR PURPOSE EVEN IF YOU REACH ONE PERSON. THAT ONE LIFE IS WORTH 'SAVING'.

YEA... DID I HAVE A CHOICE?

  9. You make a great point about infighting in the gay community. Just think how many sects are there in the gay male community? And how some within feel a bit better than others because they can emit a bit more masculine features than their fellow gay. Well I always say that there is a difference between masculinity and machoism [good topic for you Gayte] but the point is like you said we are all in the same boat and that is a relevant point to make because those who pride themselves as somehow better than another in the community because they will never don a pair of pumps might as well throw on those pumps and have a gay ole time 'cause to the rest of the world you are still on a lower level of the food chain.

It's just terrible that we care so much what the so called "straight" people feel about us and that they accept us ... how exhausting, juvenile, stupid... mostly boring.

  11. Did you hear Obama when he spoke on gays...and how they will be treated as equal as anyone else. I was like awww hell they coming out now....hahahaha (which is a good thing) I hate people that hide their sexuality. Its your way of life..no one can live it for you only you. If your not making yourself happy then who will...

    Love you boo!

  12. Wow! You are so right, no wonder gay men have this "hate baggage with each other". I find myself being over friendly with gays I don't know so they will have no reason to act rudely towards me. I have been literally bashed by other gays because they were either jealous or just wanted to be plain hateful. I wish other gays would be cognizant of what they are doing and wake up.

I needed to read this post today. Thank you!

  16. Obama can get it any day.....

It's hard being black...It's even harder being gay.....

Then, people have so much to say, stereotypes and fiction......I'm glad that I stopped and settled down at 15....

I got a good man and not wondering who I'll sleep with next or sucking dicks for change....

I feel we need to improve as a whole....stop the fuckery and start getting deeper.....Why have so when we have NOTHING to lose.....

    Things at recession....no worst....:)
