A DEAR JOHN LETTER TO YOUR BOSS

By now presumably most of you are familiar with the letter penned by Greg Smith, a former Goldman Sachs employee, about his departure from the firm.

My question to you is this: have you ever penned such a letter to a former boss?

Would you?

Why or why not?

  1. No,I haven't. Most times I will write down angry, bitter, accusatory stuff down in a letter or email just to get it off my chest/outta my system... then never send it to my intended target. I don't need to afterward, b/c I already FEEL mo betta having exorcised it.

And it's better not to spread bad karma around.

    One.

    1. I agree with you. When I think of the bad places I worked and the bosses I had, things didn't turn out so nice for them and I didn't need to 'help' karma.

  2. I stated in a previous comment that I knew enough about a number of people to destroy their businesses, marriages and/or put them in jail. I never blew the whistle. I didnt have to because they all eventually imploded upon themselves. When you find yourself in a bad work situation, you have the option to leave quietly and time it so that you and other innocent victims are not included in the inevitable destruction.

I admire Mr. Smith's altrusim in 'sacrificing' his career in order to alert all of us muppets to his company's questionable business practices but I wonder if he considered the possible consequences for the firm's other 32,000 employees and their families, many of whom are just average muppet drones trying to eck out a living.

I am sure that Mr Smith will do just fine; think of the potential book sales alone! If Goldman Sachs goes down like Lehman Brothers did, what will happen to Sally Secretary and Janitor Joe? How will they feed their families? Bad Karma works both ways and me punishing my coworkers in order to punish our evil bosses would definately NOT help me get into Heaven.

    1. One day I hope to get that info out of you.

I find it SO sad that evil ALWAYS seem to find a way to hitch their wagon to the good of others.

  3. I can only recall once that I actually sat down to scribe such a letter to an employer however, I do keep a work journal just in case.
