¿WHY DO WE HIDE?

¿WHY DO WE HIDE?

To be perfectly honest, they scared us to secrecy.

They scared us so where some of us were so traumatized that the MOVEMENT NEVER began.

Whatever spark existed faded and many of us are afraid to tell the world about homophobia!

  1. So true that many tried to intimidate us all into silence and fear. Perhaps that's the reason why we initially had National Coming Out Day (October 11, annually) which has evolved into GLBT History Month.

From one day to an entire month and we still won't fade quietly into that sweet night. Yes, we can all be bolder and braver and far too many of us are still afraid.

Yet, for every one of us who step out of the closet and step up for equality, we remain a thorn in the side of each bigot and hater in the universe. This proud and naked queer is actually Deaf (and I can really say that and it be true) to all their shouts of shame. I am not going away until death do us part!

Buddy, you always manage to present the thought when it is needed the most! Great job on the perception here and it's perfect for our community's history/herstory month!

  2. My opinion is that coming out is a personal issue and we have to stop bashing Gay men who choose not to.

Accepting the World as it is, we do what we need to do in order to survive and there should be no remorse or ridicule over that, especially from within our own demographic.

What I find really amazing but woefully human, is that as Gay men, we each carry our own bag of prejudices. Just because we are Gay and a minority doesnt mean that we automatically love and embrace other minorities; i.e., "No Jews, no Blacks, no Fats, no Fems, no Asians, etc etc".

Lets stop blaming THEM or THEY for everything and begin looking within our own souls to accept and honor those who are different from us because all too often, we ourselves are the oppressors.
