THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN VOICE: A GREAT STORY BUT DOES AMERICAN REALLY CARE?

The formerly homeless man with the gold voice, Ted Williams is strolling into his second act because he is the object of massive media attention. This man is the recipient of job and home offers that has the Americans standing and applauding, but what happens when his 15 minutes are up and the cameras are gone? Would America feel good about this feel good story? My answer is NO!

Now don’t get me wrong, I am VERY happy for Mr. Williams, but something about his story just bugs the hell out of me and I get that the recession-weary world needs a Cinderella story like this but can someone tell me if a singular case of one man down on his luck that gets on his feet again REALLY give America that tingling feeling all over?
SO few will get the chance or exposure Mr. Williams has garnered, so what happens to the many that are left who have a longing for their hand up? Williams' story is the epitome of how dreams can come true in the internet age practically overnight. So I ask again, does America REALLY care?

  1. I feel for this cat, b/c his story is the epitome of underdogism given a chance to shine. But we all know the media lives to elevate people just so they can watch them crash & burn, & then comment harshly.

Anyway back to your question. Answer: America cares in the same way it cares about watching a train wreck.

    One.

  2. My take on it is that this whole thing has been engineered by the media.

First he was "Discovered" which gave the media a feel-good story. Then there was the drama around him meeting his mother for the first time in however many years (all covered in detail by the media)which he was certainly paid for. Then he gets in "trouble" because he was "arguing" with his daughter. They both sell their stories to the tabloids and get $$. He goes on Dr. Phil and gets $$. Then he goes to "rehab" for a mere two weeks. When he gets out he and his family can sell more interviews and get $$.

This whole story is being stage managed and everyone (including the handlers) are making bank.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out Kris Jenner is the puppetmaster of this soap opera.

  3. Brotha Williams was casted in placed I the spotligt, but things happened way to fast for the brotha and now the media is tearing him down just as fast as they sought to build him up.

  4. I agree with Chet. I was watching doctor Phil and I saw all the family drama. I feel that the media is prying a little too much in the man's private life. Also I think his wife and kids are making a mockery out of him. Maybe I'm by myself on this.
