THE LQQK OF RECOGNITION...

Human societies have created a variety of different solutions to this basic part of the mating game and almost all of civilizations have established social controls that stigmatize the man who “covets” another man. It’s an irrational solution, after all aren’t we coveters just here to destroy man-kind? Nonetheless, in civilized society, we gay men had to establish a way of getting each other’s attention. As it is TOO risky to publicly ask another unknown man that you pass on the street if he would like to have dinner with you sometimes whether the man in question is willing or not, you just couldn’t take that risk!

As studies have shown, ‘Gaydar’ may actually exist and I along with MANY other gay men can attest to that fact that we can seek each other out NO matter where we might be. Isn’t  it exciting to know that when you stare @ a complete stranger and he stares, you know that is THE LOOK OF RECOGNITION? We have been beating society @ its own game with our innate ability to zero in on other men and I think that over time we’ve become MORE perceptive and detail-oriented (hiding in plain sight), thus giving us an even GREATER chance of picking up on subtle clues in other men that they may be homosexual.

I MET MY FIRST BOYFRIEND WITH THE LOOK OF RECOGNITION & I CAN SAY THAT IT DOES HAVE ITS DRAW BACKS…BUT I DIGRESS, SO DO YOU HAVE ANY INTERESTING STORIES TO SHARE ABOUT OUR UNCANNY ABILITY TO FIND EACH OTHER?

  1. I truly believe in Gaydar! We all have it even if we don't always know how to use it! I can usually spot and sniff out another gay man in a hot second - even if he doesn't self-identify as such! But let me stop before I'm accused of "talking sh--."

Yesterday, while in my favorite high-end deli, I was the one who was IMMEDIATELY sniffed out by the cute little black gay boy behind the counter. My mind was simply somewhere else and really not on him until I noticed he was giving me MORE of everything I asked for punctuated with a very pointed "will that be enough, sir? - as if he really wanted to give me ......MORE! After I smiled, and walked away with a good deal more than what I had initially ordered, I happened to glance back in his direction, and he was staring with that hungry look of MORE still lingering in the air.

I think that's an example of Gaydar in action!

  2. It can be tricky. Yes GAYDAR has to exist- how do you think our 1st gay couple ADAM & STEVE met each other? LOL. It was with a look, a stare or glance. I believe gaydar has 80% accuracy (when not done out of desperation). That 20% could be a guy staring back at you-thinking in his head he likes you hat or he you look familiar and we read it as he's gay- he wants me.

  4. When I was at the bus terminal, this guy walked by me...i look back at him(didn't know he was lookin @ at me 2) but he smiled, few minutes later he again walked by me, so slick & quietly said, "Ur cute" it was so obvious only to me and him that he was talkin 2 ME. I couldnt STOP blushin...and THAT was my 1st & only(so far) DL gaydar moment I've had in public.

  5. I myself have queerdar. It's a souped up version of gaydar. :) I can spot everything from nice lesbians and gay men, to queer femmes, to androboy dykes, to butch daddies, to bears, to transfolk, tops and bottoms, to those working the downlow, to deviants. My queerdar sort of picks up everybody on the kinsey scale even those who are working hard to be het, blah, blah, blah... It's GREAT! Now if I could just get some more dates... ;)
